Will the Mini Grinder Attachment fit my angle grinder and how can I attach it? |
The Mini Grinder Attachment is designed to fit most 4" (100mm), or 4-1/2" (115mm) angle grinders.
The diagram at right identifies the dimensions your grinder needs to fit the Mini grinder attachment. There are generally two types of grinders on the market. 1. Collar mounted auxiliary guard. Collar mounted auxiliary guard: Measure your angle grinder's collar. It should measure 1-1/2" (38mm) to 1-3/4" (44mm) and have a minimum height of 8mm (see at right). The collar section of the Mini-Grinder is fitted onto and over the collar of the angle grinder and then tightened in place with the Clamping Bolt provided. Plate mountedauxiliary guard: If your grinder does not have a collar, check the dimensions shown in this figure to see if the MIN.FG.017: Universal adaptor kit is suitable for your grinder. Remove the auxiliary guard and screw MIN.FG.017 adaptor plate into the auxiliary guard bolt holes of the angle grinder. Mini Grinder is then attached to the plate with the three screw bolts provide through the Mini-Grinder Housing. |
My angle grinder collar is too small and the Mini Grinder collar will not clamp tightly enough? |
To slightly increase the diameter of the grinder collar use either the 0.5mm or 1mm thick emery cloth. If the grinder collar is considerably smaller use collar enlarging adaptor part number MIN.FG.015. This enlarges the size of the grinder collar to fit the Mini-grinder attachment securely. |
The belt has broken prematurely? |
If the drive pulley is not horizontally aligned with the driven pulley the belt will fail prematurely. The belt must lie horizontal and level for correct alignment.
|
How do I align the pulleys correctly? |
The Pulley Belt is HIGHER at the large pulley wheel end Remove some or all spacer washers from under the large pulley wheel until the pulleys are aligned correctly. Turn the large pulley wheel upside down (cavity facing downwards) and test fit onto the spindle. If the pulley is too low place spacer washers UNDER the pulley wheel to raise it to the correct level. NOTE: If the pulley belt is HIGHER at the large pulley wheel end by 1/64" or 0.5mm, will cause premature failure. TIP: To check the pulley belt is accurately level use a guide to confirm the distance from the belt to the plastic housing top are even for both pulleys. |
|
|
If the pulley belt is LOWER at the large pulley wheel end Add spacer washers under the large pulley wheel. NOTE: Please note that the small pulley is fixed in place and CANNOT be raised. |
The belt has worn into a round profile and no longer has a V shape? |
The belt has flipped inside out (possibly due to pulley miss alignment) or been installed incorrectly. Make sure the V belt was fitted with the V's fitting into the grooves of the pulley wheels. If fitted correctly, the serrated marks of the belt should face outwards. |
The belt has flipped inside out during use? |
Check installation instructions for correct fitment of the Mini Grinder. Ensure you have properly and squarely seated the collar section of the Mini-Grinder down onto the collar of the angle grinder. Ensure that the clamping bolt is tightly done up. If it does not tighten sufficiently, use emery cloth strips provided. |
The blade is not turning freely? |
The cutting blade was not seated down properly on the small pulley wheel (this would make the cutter wobble). Take care to seat the blades down onto the shoulder/rim. Check that the small pulley wheel has been fitted correctly. The deep shoulder fits down with the small shoulder fitting outwards. The large pulley wheel was positioned TOO LOW and the belt is touching Mini-Grinder housing. The Mini Industrial and Mini Diamond blade have been fitted without using the supplied raising washer. |
How do I fit a replacement bearing/spindle assembly or small pulley wheel? |
NOTE: Disconnect the power before working on the power tool. Remove screws from the belt tensioning cap (component No. 6-see standard parts key) Rotate to relieve tension from the belt and remove belt and remove the belt tensioning cap. Use a screw driver or 7mm rod to push the Mini Grinder Spindle (component No. 8-see standard parts key) down and free the small pulley wheel. Press the small pulley wheel onto the replacement spindle bearing assembly. Re-fit the new spindle bearing assembly into it's housing in the 'back' of the Mini-Grinder. Support the spindle bearing assembly hard against a firm surface. With a SOFT hammer or Mallet tap the small pulley wheel down onto the bearing assembly until flush. CAUTION: You must use a soft rubber hammer when striking the small brass pulley wheel. Refit the belt tensioning cap (push fit) and re-tension the belt (do not over tension the belt as it will cause premature failure). Screw the belt tensioning cap into place once the correct belt tension is applied. Replace the front safety cover. If you have difficulty please email our Customer Service for further assistance. |
The blade has cut into the guard housing? |
The blade was not seated down properly on top of the small pulley wheel (this would make the cutter wobble). Take care to seat the blades down onto the shoulder/rim. The belt tensioner cap has been over rotated. If this occurs rotate the belt tensioner cap in the opposite direction. If the belt tension cannot be obtained without contact to the guard housing, replace belt. |
After using the Mini Grinder for a short while, the blade has sunk back into the safety guard housing and I can smell burning! |
Check the four small screws that fix the belt tensioning cap in place. If the Belt Tensioning Cap 1/2" self tapping screws are not installed it will cause excessive heat within the bearing assembly, melting of the housing and destroy the Mini-Grinder. CHECK THAT YOU HAVE FITTED THE SCREWS CORRECTLY. |
Large Pulley Wheel & Pulley Alignment Ring won't fit onto spindle? |
Check your grinder manual to confirm the grinder's spindle size. The Mini-grinder has different large pulley alignment rings (regional). If you do not have the correct large pulley and alignment ring for your region please contact customerservice@arbortech.com.au Note: The standard Arbortech Mini-Grinder Kit is a metric kit and has pulley alignment rings for both 10mm and 14mm grinder spindles. The US kit includes a 5/8" drive pulley. |
